My Story

Welcome to my website…

Hi, I’m Rachel Lovelock and I’m a well-published writer, biographer and editor originally from England. In 1998, I made the momentous decision to change my life. I left my longstanding job, sold my house in Devon and moved to the beautiful island of Bali, where I later met my Kiwi husband. Together we have created our own colourful Bali home just footsteps from the beach, while also taking time out to explore some of the remotest islands of Indonesia. We divide our time between Bali, New Zealand and – whenever possible – England.

Yes, that’s me in the photo: ‘Have laptop, will travel… and write life stories.’ I wanted to be a writer from when I was a little girl and now I’m truly living my dream.

I will take your personal biography or memoirs and transform your life story into the book you’ve always dreamed of. A story and a book worthy of publication, and an important legacy for your family and for those yet to come. My official title is ‘ghostwriter’, but what I really do is help you achieve something you’ve always dreamed of — a book telling your life story.

I come from a family of writers, all of whom I have honoured in the photos featured on the various pages of this website.

I have more than two decades of experience in the world of journalism and publishing – as a writer, reviewer, editor, interviewer and researcher – in the creation of profiles, interview-style articles for magazines, autobiographies, life stories and memoirs. I’m also an experienced copy-editor and proofreader, helping to polish books, manuscripts, editorials and feature stories before they hit the shelves. I am the sole author of two international guidebooks to Bali, published in the UK by Insight, and I have a portfolio of more than one thousand stories showcased in travel and lifestyle publications, originating from the UK, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia and the US. I’m working on my own novel and I also write personal essays, short stories, blogs and website content.

Being a memoir ghostwriter means performing the role of not only a writer but also an investigative journalist. Both jobs require a high level of empathy. With my journalistic experience, I am well trained in the interview process. I have a keen listening ear, a true appreciation of the challenges and triumphs of our life journeys, and I know how to ask the right questions in order to get the most vivid compelling stories onto the page.

I truly believe that telling your life story is one of the most important things you can ever do.

“The great use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it. —William James
